"KISS OF DEATH" BY J2 OFF HIS NEWST MIXTAPE "BEEN A KING"

There are a lot of sub-genres created unofficially within Hip-Hop these days. Radio rap is now comparable to parents putting cartoons on for their kids in order to do other things rather than be the parent they were meant to be. You remember that shit? Your mom or dad turning on your little hand- me- down tv, and channel surfing until they see animation before stopping. It didnt matter whether you liked it, nor did they bother to take the time to find out which ones you did like, or what time they were scheduled to show. Just hurriedly flippin', so that they could go about their business that was usually of only self-importance.

Ok, whats my point? What am I getting at here?

I was raised a little different. I had a caring mother who actually paid attention, and knew exactly what I liked, and most importantly, knew why I liked what I liked. She genuinely knew who I was, and was more than the best mother anyone could have been fortunate enough to be birthed from lol. Quick shout out to my Mom. Love you, mom. This will tie in later, I promise.

Well, one thing I have learned over the years, from my journey to the bigger picture, is that record labels, execs, and corporate suits who control, and determine what music will be played on traditional fm radio, as well as sirius xm, whatever it may be, are just like those self-absorbed, neglectful parents. They shove music like  "Rae Sremmurd - No Type" in full rotation every hour of the day, it seems, and the youth of this mindless generation eats it up, with absolutely no regard to what is being said. Which generally is absolutely nothing. I'm not hating by any means, young man. Get your money. All I'm saying is that it basically sums up what hip-hop has become. I wouldn't call it evolving because thats not evolution. Evolution is progression. Whether it be new levels of creativity, or intelligence, or a combination of both.

Instead the state of hip hop has become devolutionized to degenerates.
Passed down from the likes of the legendary 2pac, Nas, Biggie, Big L, Big Pun, NWA, Outkast, 50 Cent, Eminem, and numerous others who made significant contributions to "The Game" unto rappers who have absolutely no idea what to do with it. Example : in Rae Sremmurds song "No Type" he sings "I aint got no type. Bad bitches is the only thing that I like". Umm...bad bitches is a type, genius. But hey! Thats not even the worst of what all this new era of artists has to offer. Thats actually the better part of it, sadly.

All in all what I'm saying is that the new generation of artists have an abundance of some of the best instrumentals I've ever heard in my entire life, and instead of probing their brains for some better lyrics to lay down, they choose some basic, 3rd grade reading level Dr. Seus bullshit. Dont let these label execs, and suits turn you into "Harry" and "Lloyd". Who cares what they like? They don't care about the music, or even bother to get to know you, and what you think is good music. They are only out to find their next buck $$, and new flavor of the week.

Because of my mothers interest in my interests it led to me believe that what I liked mattered. It made me strive to be more intelligent, and articulate. Which then in turn put me on to the more creative, and intricate lyricists that the rap game had to offer...and in the grand scheme of things, made me an articulate person, and ultimately better lyricist.
